Lyrics

They came down the Bannon warships sailing off Belfast town,

the RUC and Specials to put the riot down.

They flattened out like lemons and the ground they had to hug

when there came a loud explosion from the Bogside Doodlebug.

Chorus:

"Run back, run back! We're under fierce attack!

Ah hoist the white flag William," the sergeant sadly cried.

It was the Bogside doodlebug that poor man he had spied.

Now this missile of the people was invented by a man,

unemployed for 14 years when his good work he began.

He said "It's no use beggin' and for work we'll have to fight

so I'll invent a weapon that will make the peelers shine.

Chorus

Now the Doodlebug's a weapon quite easy for to make.

Just get yourself some petrol and some powder and some paint.

It's the pride of all the Bogside and the fear of the men in blue

aye, for when it hits an armored car it sticks to the side like glue.

Chorus

Now the peelers use their batons and the specials use their guns.

They come roaring through the Bogside like the bloody German Huns.

They all run back like cowards, they knew what lay in wait

when the music of the Doodlebug was heard at butchers gate.

Chorus

To conclude this truthful story look up to the sky at night.

You'll see an object passing by going at the speed of light.

Its not a lunar module or Aladdin's magic rug

It's the discrimination-wiper-out: the Bogside Doodlebug.

Chorus
