Marcus Mosiah Garvey Jr. was a prominent civil rights activist and early proponent of Pan-Africanism who founded the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League and was the organization's first President-General. The organization hailed him as the Provisional President of Africa, and his ideas which became foundational to the Pan-African movement became known as Garveyism
