Nelson Appleton Miles (August 8, 1839 – May 15, 1925) was a Statesian general who fought in the Civil War and Spanish–Statesian War. He also fought against the Apache, Comanche, Kiowa, Nez Perce, and Lakota and ordered George Custer to commit the Wounded Knee massacre. He also crushed the 1894 Pullman strike in Illinois, comparing the strikers to his indigenous enemies. After the USA annexed the Philippines, he led a counterinsurgency to destroy Emilio Aguinaldo's independence movement.[1]
