The Revolutionary Base Area (Chinese: 革命根据地, Romanized: gémìng gēnjùdì), or simply base area, is a local stronghold that a revolutionary force conducting people's war should attempt to establish, starting from a remote area with mountainous or forested terrain in which its enemy is weak.
The Revolutionary Base Area strategy was formulated by Mao Zedong as he thought that guerrilla warfare would not last without a base area for dependable infrastructure.[1]
