Simon Arshaki Ter-Petrosyan, also known as Kamo, was a Caucasian Bolshevik. His nickname "Kamo" was based on a mispronunciation of the Russian word "Кому" (Komu).
Early life[edit | edit source]
Ter-Petrosyan was born in Gori in 1882. He studied at an Armenian school and was expelled in 1898 after becoming a materialist. After being expelled, he lived with his aunt, where he met Joseph Stalin and became a Marxist.[1]
Pre-revolution activities[edit | edit source]
Kamo joined the RSDLP in 1901. He began working in secret printing houses in 1903 and participated in the 1905 Russian revolution. In July 1907, he led a bank robbery in Tbilisi and stole about 341,000 rubles to fund the Bolsheviks. He was arrested in Berlin later that year but escaped after pretending to be insane.[1]
Death[edit | edit source]
Kamo died on 13 July 1922 after being hit by a truck while biking.[1]
