The Sultanate of Bagirmi was a state located near Lake Chad. Its population was descended from a mix of Arab, Fula and other Sudanic tribes. 'Bagirmi' literally means 'a hundred cows' because the early Bagirmi rulers demanded 100 cattle from each nation that they conquered.[1]
