Wanted to add for the birth date and location that it seems that Soviet and DPRK documents contradict one another. Soviet documents contend he was born in Primorsky Krai in 1941 whilst documents in the DPRK argue that he was born in Paektu in 1942.
That's a good idea. I too was wondering when his actual date of birth and location was, 1942 or 1941.
Yeah, as far as I can discern that appears to be the issue between the different years and locations and different records from different nations. I cited the records from the DPRK in this article but it may be worth it to add the difference with the Soviet records if a good source mentioning the discrepancy in the dates can be found.
