History[edit | edit source]

Revolution[edit | edit source]

In 1962 the Front for the Liberation of Mozambique (FRELIMO) was founded in Dar es Salaam, and in 1964 it launched an armed struggled to liberate Mozambique from Portuguese colonial rule. This struggle saw great success, and was a contributing factor, along with the simultaneous liberation struggles in Portugal's other colonies of Angola, and Guinea-Bissau, to the April 1974 Carnation Revolution in Portugal. After some more fighting, and a 10 month transitional government, Mozambique became independent on June 25 1975 under FRELIMO leadership.[1]
