Havana is the capital of and largest city in the Republic of Cuba, one of only five remaining Marxist–Leninist socialist states. The city is known for its tropical climate, and has a population of 2.1 million. The city was founded in 1514 by explorer Diego Velázquez as San Cristóbal de la Habaña.
