The Socialism and Liberty Party (Portuguese: Partido Socialismo e Liberdade, PSOL) is a non-marxist left-wing party in Brazil.[1]
This party was founded by dissidents of the Workers' Party.[2]
The PSOL is recognized by the Superior Electoral Court as just one party of number 50,[3] but within this party there are several tendencies that function as parties within the PSOL. It's, however, not a catch-all party, because PSOL has a clear statute.[4]
List of Tendencies of PSOL[edit | edit source]
Warning: This section is incomplete, if you know of another PSOL tendency not listed, please add it here.
- Brazilian Revolution (Portuguese: Revolução Brasileira): A marxist tendency which criticizes the policies of liberal institutionality and seeks a revolutionary transformation.[5]
- Marxist Left (Portuguese: Esquerda marxista): A Trotskyist organization that is part of the International Marxist Tendency.[6]
- Socialist Tendency of Workers (Portuguese: Corrente Socialista dos Trabalhadores): Another Trotskyist tendency.[7]
- Socialist Left Movement (Portuguese: Movimento Esquerda Socialista): Another Trotskyist tendency.[8]
- Strengthen the PSOL (Portuguese: Fortalecer o PSOL).[9]
- Liberty, Socialism and Revolution (Portuguese: Liberdade, Socialismo e Revolução): Another Trotskyist tendency.[10]
- Resistance (Portuguese: Resistência): An "anti-Stalinist" tendency.[11]
- People's Socialist Action (Portuguese: Ação Popular Socialista): A socialist organization that seeks to organize social movements, claims to be a communist and denies the transition experiences of Eastern Europe.[12]
- Socialist Spring (Portuguese: Primavera Socialista).[13]
Controversies[edit | edit source]
- Support for Hong Kong's colour revolution.[14]
- Some members reproduce imperialist propaganda about Juche and Democratic People's Republic of Korea.[15]
