“Yesterday evening, Sunday, the Israeli occupation forces assassinated Talal Abu Zarifa, a member of the political bureau of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, in a direct bombardment on the Al-Sabra neighborhood, south of Gaza City.

Press sources reported that the leader Abu Zarifa was martyred as a result of an “Israeli” raid that targeted the home of the Al-Hamami family in the Al-Sabra neighborhood, which led to the death of the leader Abu Zarifa and two others.

The martyr leader, Talal Khalil Muhammad Abu Zarifa, was born in Abasan al-Kabira, east of Khan Yunis, south of the Gaza Strip, in 1960. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology - specializing in science from the University of Algiers in 1983, and worked as director of the Land Reclamation Department at the Ministry of Agriculture in Khan Yunis District.

Abu Zarifa belonged to the Democratic Front in 1977, and was a member of the General Union of Palestine Students Conference in 1979, then a member of the General Conference of the General Union of Teachers in Algeria, a member of the National Observer Council in 1986-1989, and a member of the Central Committee of the Democratic Front.

Abu Zarifa was pursued by the Israeli occupation forces during the years of the Al-Aqsa Intifada, and was subjected to several assassination attempts, and during the invasion of the village of Abasan in 2003, his house was completely blown up.

Abu Zarifa is a Palestinian national leader who enjoyed extensive relations with the Palestinian factions, and was a supporter of the armed resistance program against the Zionist occupation.

When the occupation began its ground incursion and forced citizens to flee the northern Gaza Strip, Abu Zarifa said: “We will not leave Gaza. We call on people to be steadfast and patient, and we will be the vanguard of that.”

For its part, the International Committee for Supporting the Rights of the Palestinian People (Hashd) strongly condemned the assassination of Talal Abu Zarifa, a member of the political bureau of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, by the Israeli occupation.

The Commission said in a statement: The assassination of Abu Zarifa is a war crime that comes within the framework of the “Israeli” war of genocide against Palestinian civilians.

It called on the international community to stand up to its commitments to stop the ongoing genocidal war on Gaza, and to force the “Israeli” occupation to stop its crimes in the Gaza Strip and the rest of the Palestinian territories. It also called for providing international protection to the Palestinians and holding the occupation and its leaders accountable as war criminals.”
