While it is, of course, better to let a citation point to a free-access online resource rather than a paywalled one if both (legally) point to the same document, Wikipedia depends on reliable refs, not on free or online refs. So, the access-status is irrelevant in regard to citation links. Let's not introduce restrictions into template documentation through the backdoor. Also, template documentation is not a guideline, such terms are better avoided.) |

This guidance does not restrict linking to websites that are being used as sources to provide content in articles.
