Free State of Bavaria[edit | edit source]

Following the collapse of the German Empire in November 1918 at the end of the First World War, a republican government was formed and the People's State of Bavaria established. In April 1919 the Bavarian Soviet Republic was established by the communists after the overthrow of the previous government, however, this state was short lived as soon after it was invaded by the German government and incorporated as a state into the Weimar Republic.[1]
