Bashar al-Assad (born 11 September 1965) is a Syrian politician and Axis of Resistance leader who served as the President of the Syrian Arab Republic from July 2000 to December 2024. On 9 December 2024, Western-backed forces conquered Damascus, and Assad fled to Moscow, where he was granted political asylum.[1]
Personal life
Assad is married to Asma Assad, a British-born investment banker. She is currently suffering from acute myeloid leukemia.[2]
