Qasem Soleimani was an anti-imperialist Iranian general who was assassinated by a U.S. airstrike in 2020.[1]
He had been a staunch opponent of ISIS, and his assassination is seen as both martyrdom for Iran, as well as US support for ISIS.[2][3]
