Saddam Hussein was an Iraqi pan-Arab bourgeois revolutionary who came to power with CIA backing, yet was ousted by the United States during the invasion of Iraq after he rebelled against his former patrons by setting out to pursue a nationalistic development strategy for Iraq.
He was a notable figure in the Ararb Socialist Ba'ath movement, representing its Iraqi branch.
