Alexei Grigoryevich Stakhanov (3 January 1906 – 5 November 1977) was a Soviet coal miner and Hero of the Socialist Labour who began the Stakhanov movement. On 31 August 1935, he mined 102 tons of coal in one shift, fulfilling the quota 14 times over. His work inspired increased productivity of workers and collective farmers and helped complete the Second Five Year-Plan early.[1]
