Lee Harvey Oswald (October 18, 1939 – November 24, 1963) was a former Marine who was accused of assassinating John F. Kennedy in 1963.[1]
Military career
Oswald joined the Marines in 1956 and left in September 1959. During his three-year term, he received advanced firearm training. His marksmanship report said that he had average shooting accuracy for a Marine while using an M1 rifle and M1A1 carbine.[1]
Life in the USSR
Oswald joined a gun club while living in the Soviet Union.[1]
JFK assassination
According to the Warren Commission, Oswald shot three bullets within the span of 10 seconds, two of which hit Kennedy. This level of accuracy would require much better marksmanship than indicated in Oswald's Marine records. He allegedly used an Italian Carcano rifle, which is not semiautomatic like the M1 and takes much longer to reload. His Carcano had a telescopic sight, which would also take even longer time to resight after each shot.[1]
