The Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union was the main legislative body of the Soviet Union. It consisted of the Soviet of the Union and Soviet of Nationalities and elected the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet, Council of People's Commissars,[1] and Supreme Court.[2] Members of the Supreme Soviet were elected for four-year terms, and both houses had to pass a bill by a majority vote to make it a law. It met at least twice a year, and the Presidium or a Union Republic could convene additional sessions.[1]
