The enemies of Julius Caesar often described him as a tyrant.

Tyrant is an insult used to describe certain leaders. In ancient times, it referred to leaders who supported the lower classes against the oligarchy and attempted to create popular democracies.[1] The founding fathers of the United States called democracy the "tyranny of the majority."[2] In modern times, the bourgeois media slanders socialist states by calling them "tyrannies."[3]
