Banks are financial institutions that transform inactive money capital into active capital. They begin as tools of the bourgeoisie but take control of production once they monopolize. Banks controlling production is one of the features of imperialism, the highest stage of capitalism.[1] Nationalization of banks is one of the first tasks of a proletarian revolution.[2]
