Uganda, officially the Republic of Uganda, is a country in East Africa. Since 1996, it has plundered at least $10 billion of natural resources from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and received over $20 billion from the U.S. government.[1]

History

Following anti-Indian riots in 1945 and 1949, Idi Amin expelled the Indian population from Uganda in 1972.[2]

Yoweri Museveni came to power in 1986 following a six-year war against socialist leader Milton Obote.

Uganda and Rwanda invaded the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 1996 to install Laurent Kabila as the country's leader and allow Uganda to exploit the DRC's minerals. They replaced Laurent Kabila with another puppet, his son Joseph Kabila. Between 1997 and 2001, Ugandan militias controlled the DRC's Ituri region, which is rich in gold, diamonds, tantalum, and niobium. Around 50,000 Iturians were killed during this period, and half a million more were displaced.[1]
