Samuel Philips Huntington (April 18, 1927 – December 24, 2008) was a Statesian ideologue and author of Clash of Civilizations. He argued that different cultures and religions are unchanging and divided the world into seven groups: Buddhist, Confucian, Hindu, Japanese (Shintō), Muslim, Occidental (Catholic and Protestant), and Orthodox Christian while ignoring African and Latin American cultures in order to group them by religion. He associated western Christianity with capitalism and democracy even though these systems did not exist in medieval Christian Europe.[1]
