The Muslim World League (MWL) is a reactionary Islamic organization created by the Saudi monarchy to fight against secularism and socialism. It denounced Arab nationalism and considers the achievements of Arabs to be achievements of Islam.[1]:260
History
In May 1962, Crown Prince Faisal invited 111 scholars into Mecca to found the Muslim World League. In 1969, at the request of Jordan, Faisal created the Organization of the Islamic Conference, which created an international news agency.[1]:260
Activities
In Islamic countries, the MWL provided services to the public after the state privatized them. In socialist countries such as Yemen and Afghanistan, it armed counterrevolutionary groups.[1]:271
