Mozambique, officially the Republic of Mozambique is a country in Africa bordered by South Africa, Eswatini, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi and Tanzania. Mozambique was a former Portuguese colony before achieving independence in 1975.

21st Century[edit | edit source]
In 2010 a massive natural gas field was found off the coast of northern Mozambique, French company, TotalEnergies SE, and Statesian company, ExxonMobil took control of this field.
In October 2017 Al-Shabaab fighters appeared in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, and engaged on a guerrilla campaign before taking control of the town of Mocímboa da Praia in August 2020. In July 2021 Rwandan forces intervened in the conflict with the backing of French President Macron, and retook control of the town on August 8 before handing back control of the area to the Western oil companies.[1]
