Communist nostalgia, also called socialist nostalgia is the desire for the past in various post-communist states in Central and Eastern Europe and Russia for their previous communist governments.
Germany
In Germany, Ostalgie is nostalgia for aspects of life in East Germany. It is a portmanteau of the German words Ost (east) and Nostalgie (nostalgia). Its anglicized equivalent ostalgia (rhyming with "nostalgia") is also sometimes used.
