The Cuban Revolution is a revolutionary process that began to take shape at the end of the 19th century when the mambises produced an attempt to gain independence for Cuba from the Spanish regime, in which the Liberation Army played an important role. It was an example of patriotism and courage which was inherited by the young generation of the mid-twentieth century. Fidel Castro, in command of the Rebel Army, waged a new strategy of armed struggle against Batista's dictatorship. Their efforts led to the revolutionary 1959 triumph from which, for over 50 years, the Cuban intelligence, capacity for resistance, and ability of the revolutionary leadership have been maintained.
