Literacy campaigns have been key in securing victories for communist and revolutionary movements throughout history, given that these revolutions are often carried out by vanguard parties which seek to gain mass support among the exploited lower classes who are often illiterate and uneducated.

Examples of this phenomenon include the Russian Revolution[1], the Cuban Revolution[2], the Chinese Revolution[3] among others.
