The Proletarian League, founded in 1852, was the first Marxist organization in the United States. It was created by 17 Marxists in New York City, including Joseph Wedemeyer, and F. A. Sorge. In March 1853, it organized a meeting of 800 German-speaking workers that launched the American Labor Union.[1]
