The Turkistan Islamic Party (TIP), formerly known as the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), is an Islamic extremist organization founded in China. It organized its first attack in Baren Township in Xinjiang on 1990 April 5. In 2002, the United Nations designated it as a terrorist organization. It was also recognized as a terrorist organization by China in 2003. While the United States of America first labed the TIP as a terrorist movement in 2004, in 2020, they removed its terrorist status, largely because it was a convenient asset aganist the PRC.[1][2][3]

Syrian Civil War

Since 2012, the ETIM/TIP has been participating in the Syrian Civil War. In 2015, it settled in Idlib Province in Syria, near the border with Turkey.[1]
