What the “friends of the people” are and how they fight the social-democrats[a] is the first major work of Vladimir Lenin, published in 1894 as a critique to the articles of the liberal Narodnik periodical Russian wealth.[b] The book laid the foundations of the program and tactics of Russian revolutionary social democrats putting forward the alliance of the peasant and working classes as the main way of overthrowing czarism and landowner or bourgeois rule.
