2022 food crisis

From ProleWiki, the proletarian encyclopedia

In 2022, there is an ongoing food crisis that is resulting in high inflation in food prices and decreased food security and hunger.[1][2][3] In the United States, the wheat crop was affected by a dry winter and a soggy spring which has diminished the output severely.[4][5]

Responses

Capitalist countries

The bourgeois capitalist-imperialist governments have limited tools to respond to the food crisis without violating their own "free market" principals.[6] In response to government neglect, citizens of these countries have begun taking matters into their own hands, by creating community gardens, community kitchens, and other decommodified means of meeting their material needs.

Socialist countries

The socialist world directs its production in accordance with the material needs of its citizens, rather than corporate profits. This allows for greater food security among the population. Examples of this is China's state-directed advances in food technology, such as the invention of rice that can grow in saltwater. [7]

Socialist Bolivia has also taken steps to ensure food security through its state-owned enterprises and price controls.[8]
