Giorgia Meloni (born 15 January 1977) is a far-right Italian politician who has served as the first female Prime Minister of Italy since 2022. Meloni has also served as president of the Brothers of Italy (Fdl) since 2014 and previously served as president of the European Conservatives and Reformists Party from 2020 to 2025. She also previously served as Minister for Youth Policies from 2008 to 2011 under Silvio Berlusconi.
As prime minister she has moderated her image as an overt fascist to appear more moderate whilst still pushing reactionary policies. Meloni has consistently attacked the judiciary, bourgeois democratic structures and the media in order to consolidate her power whilst passing repressive legislation on migration and LGBT rights. Western leaders have offered little criticism of her regime due to her support for NATO, imperialism in Ukraine and her assistance in deporting non-white people.[1]
Political career[edit | edit source]
Meloni joined the fascist Italian Social Movement at the age of 15. In 2012, she founded the Brothers of Italy party.[2]
She promoted the Great Replacement conspiracy theory in her 2021 autobiography.[2]
