Isin was the last kingdom of ancient Sumer.[1]
Isin-Larsa period[edit | edit source]
In the late 21st century BCE, the Elamites conquered and occupied Urim. In the early 20th century BCE, Iƥbīrra of Isin seized power. Lipitiƥtar, the king of Isin from 1934 to 1924 BCE, issued a new legal code and freed Sumerians and Akkadians from debt slavery.[1]
In 1894 BCE, the Amorites captured the northern part of Isin and founded a kingdom at Babylon (BÄbilim).[1]
Laws[edit | edit source]
Based on the laws of LipitiĆĄtar, an enslaved woman and her children could become free if she married a free man. The laws punished slaves that tried to escape and anyone who hid them.[2]
