Mark Rutte (born 14 February 1967) is a Dutch politician who has served as secretary general of NATO since October 2024. He previously served as the longest serving prime minister of the Netherlands from 2010 to 2024 and as leader of the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) from 2006 to 2023. Before that he served under Jan Peter Balkenende as minister of education from 2004 to 2006 and as minister of social affairs from 2002 to 2004.
As secretary general he has fanatically pushed for increased military spending for NATO states to use for imperialism and as such is a key supporter of Ukraine in the Russo-Ukrainian War. Rutte is also notable for his diplomatic subservience to Donald Trump, supporting the President's push for European states to pay for their own defence, and is best known for his grovelling, even going so far as to refer to Trump as "daddy".[1]
