The Nation of Islam (NOI) is a black religious and political organization founded by Wallace Fard Muhammad in Detroit, Michigan in 1930 alongside the Fruit of Islam (FOI) and Muslim Girls Training & General Civilization Class (MGTGCC). Although the NOI considers itself to be an Islamic movement, the NOI believes that Fard Muhammad embodied the spirit of Allah and the upholds Elijah Muhammad as a prophet, which is widely considered a break from Islamic theology by Muslim scholars and communities.

Louis Farrakhan[edit | edit source]
Following the dissolution of the Nation of Islam under Warith Deen Mohammed, Minister Farrakhan began rebuilding a version of the original NOI which was not based on its original teachings. The Final Call newspaper was founded alongside it in 1979 and Fruit of Islam members began offering and distributing the Nation's newspapers in Afro-American communities again. With these developments, Farrakhan purchased Elijah Muhammad's home in Chicago as well as the largest mosque in the city, which he renamed Mosque Maryam. The movement's old corporate ventures were rebuilt and the Fruit of Islam was transformed into a private security force for hire, allowing them to be contracted to protect public housing programs. An immense number of Afro-Americans living in neighborhoods negatively affected by the drug epidemic of the 1980s praised their performance. Farrakhan also positioned himself as a vocal critic of gang-banging and the disproportionate killing of Black people by AIDS while advocating for the practice of clean living, social conservatism and patriarchy as solutions for Black social issues; issues which Farrakhan and the NOI view the United States government of being the behind. Although Farrakhan's NOI is extremely critical of the US, as was Elijah Muhammad's NOI, Farrakhan has told followers to obey US laws and avoid revolutionary activities.

Mythology[edit | edit source]
The Nation of Islam believes in 24 scientists, with the last being Allah. This number is the reason why there are 24 hours in a day.
According to the NOI, the world began at least 66 trillion years ago. Over 15,000 years ago, the 23 scientists predicted that Yakub would be born near Mecca 8,400 years later.[1]
Invention of whites[edit | edit source]
As predicted, Yakub was supposedly born around 4640 BCE. After graduating from every college by the age of 18, he began preaching in Mecca and discovered that Black people contained black and brown alleles. The authorities then arrested Yakub and his followers but did not have enough room in their jails to hold them all, so the King exiled Yakub and 59,999 followers to the island of Patmos in the Aegean Sea.
On Patmos, Yakub began a eugenics program and only allowed lighter brown people to breed. Yakub died at the age of 150, and his followers continued his work and created a fully brown race after 200 years. After 200 more years, they created the "yellow" and "red" races. They finally created a white race of devils after 600 years of eugenics. Due to the nature of their creation, whites were predisposed to murder and lie. However, the other intermediate races created during this process are considered part of the Black race and are not considered evil.[1]
White takeover[edit | edit source]
The whites returned to Mecca over 400 years after Yakub died and started a civil war within six months by constantly spreading lies. The King of Mecca then exiled them across the desert into the caves of Europe. For 2,000 years, Black Muslims guarded the border of Europe to prevent the whites from invading again. Some whites tried to reintegrate with the Black people but failed and became gorillas. Afterwards, Moses tried to bring the whites back into civilization, teaching how to cook food and wear clothes. However, since they were so dangerous, he had to blow up 300 of them with dynamite. The whites then invaded and conquered the rest of the world. Muhammad set them back for 1,000 years, but they returned to power when Christopher Columbus invaded America.[1]
Eschatology[edit | edit source]
The NOI believes that, after whites have ruled the world for 6,000 years, a Black person with infinite knowledge and power will be born and will overthrow the whites and restore Black people to power forever. The NOI defines this as the same person as Allah, Mahdi, and Jesus.[1]
