Nekau I (died 664 BCE) was a ruler of the Egyptian cities of Men-nefer and Zau. He negotiated for peace with the Nubian pharaoh Taheruq. After the Assyrians invaded Egypt and defeated Taheruq, they imprisoned him and took him to Assyria. King Aššurbāniapli of Assyria later pardoned him and let him return to his governorship in Egypt. After Nekau's death, his son Pesmetjek I reunified Egypt and restored its independence.[1]
