John Richard Pilger (9 October 1939 – 30 December 2023) was an anti-imperialist journalist from Australia. He denounced neocolonialism, neoliberalism, racism, war, and U.S. coups. British state media described him as "A threat to Western Civilization."

In 1970, Pilger documented U.S. soldiers rebelling against the Vietnam War and produced the documentary Cambodia Year Zero. He repeatedly called for the liberation of Palestine and described Ukraine as a "CIA theme park" after the Euromaidan coup in 2014 and warned of a possible future war with Russia. In 2016, he released a documentary predicting a U.S. war on China. The last article that he wrote called for the freedom of Julian Assange.[1]

Controversies[edit | edit source]

In his documentary The Coming War on China he claimed that China is capitalist, that the 1989 Tian'anmen Square riots was a “massacre” and he expressed support for Liu Xiaobo.[2]
