United States Agency for Global Media

From ProleWiki, the proletarian encyclopedia

The United States Agency for Global Media (USAGM) is an independent agency of the United States government responsible for overseeing and funding U.S. government-supported media organizations that provide news, information, and cultural programming to audiences around the world.[1] It was formerly known as the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG) until 2018 when the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017 restructured and rebranded it as the USAGM.[2]

USAGM oversees several media organizations,[1][2] including:

USAGM also supports the Open Technology Fund, which launched in 2019 and which the USAGM website describes as "an independent grantee tasked with developing and distributing cutting-edge technologies and techniques to counter efforts by repressive regimes and closed societies."[2]
