Gary Webb (31 August 1955 – 10 December, 2004) was a Statesian journalist who exposed the CIA’s involvement in cocaine trafficking with the Nicaraguan Contras.[1] He also brought to light the Pentagon's use of video games for military indoctrination.[2]
Death[edit | edit source]
Webb was found dead on 11 December 2004;[3] his death was ruled as a suicide by the Sacramento County Coroner's office, though certain details such as the two bullet wounds to the head have led some to speculate that Webb was murdered, presumably by the U.S. Government, as retribution for his "Dark Alliance" series.
It should be noted that although uncommon, it is entirely possible for a human to survive a gunshot to the head given that they don't lose too much blood and vital organs such as their brain don't sustain too much damage. A Los Angeles Times article gives the following description of Webb's injuries:
"When he pulled the trigger, the bullet sliced down through his face, exiting at his left cheek, a non-fatal wound. He pulled the trigger again. The second shot, coroner’s investigators believe, nicked an artery."[3]
