Macao or Macau, officially the Macao Special Administrative Region, is one of China’s two special administrative regions along with Hong Kong. It was colonized by the Portuguese until 1999, when China regained sovereignty of the land.[1]
Education
Macao was the first region of China to provide 15 years of free education. In 2009, Macao spent $261 million on education, which increased by 166% by 2019. The number of university students increased from 7,527 in 1999 to 34,279 in 2019.[2]
