The Central Treaty Organization (CENTO), also known as the Baghdad Pact or Middle East Treaty Organization (METO), was an imperialist military alliance between the United Kingdom, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, and Turkey. Although the USA was not a member, John Foster Dulles was responsible for creating CENTO. India and Egypt both refused to join under the Non-Aligned leaders Nehru and Nasser, respectively.[1]
