Gus Hall (born Arvo Kustaa Halberg; October 8, 1910 – October 13, 2000) was a Statesian Marxist–Leninist. He was General Secretary of the Communist Party USA from 1959–2000 and ran in US presidential elections four times.

He and the CPUSA were accused by the CPC of breaking Communist solidarity by not only slandering the CPC and it's positions regarding the Cuban Missile Crisis, but also of "prettifying U.S Imperialism", breaking from Marxism-Leninism, and pledging loyalty to the Bourgeois government of the U.S. The CPC described him as being no different than Earl Browder and that the influence of both Browder and Jay Lovestone permeated the CPUSA.
