Common prosperity is a concept promoted by the Communist Party of China (CPC) which aims to construct a more abundant and equal future for the Chinese nation.[1][2] Similar terms have been used in the past, but the phrase was solidified during the Fifth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the CPC in October of 2020, which called for "more tangible and substantial progress in common prosperity of all the people."

Negative reactions

The bourgeoisie, the imperialists and capitalists tend not to like this socialistic rhetoric, since their profits depend on the exploitation of labor (and thus, for prosperity to be centralized in their hands, instead of being spread to the commoners)[3] Common prosperity has been demonized in Western press as a "Maoist" policy.[4]
