Patriotic socialism (abbreviated as PatSocism) is a political current is Marxism–Leninism that puts a large emphasis on patriotism. Existing largely within the imperial core, patriotic socialism is often considered as has the effect of having several reactionary tendencies. It tends to be controversial and is sometimes considered to be right deviationist.[1] Some socialists go as far as to call patriotic socialism an 'opportunist disorder'.[2] Alternatively, people have defended patriotic socialism by saying that patriotism can be a powerful tool for socialist organizing.[3]

"Patriotic socialism is socialist" camp
The American Marxist-Leninist media website known as Midwestern Marx has argued in favor of patriotic socialism, emphasising that being patriotic to the United States is not the same as promoting bourgeois nationalism.[3] The British website known as Morning Star has also pointed out that patriotism and socialism do not contradict, which can be used to argue that patriotic socialism is naturally socialist.[4]
"Patriotic socialism is not socialist" camp
The socialist media outlet known as Regeneration has classified patriotic socialism as right deviationist, pointing out that it tends to be against movements such as Land Back.[1] The website known as Socialist Appeal argues further, stating that patriotic socialism is opportunist.[2]
