Jair Messias Bolsonaro (born 21 March 1955) is a far-right Brazilian politician who was the president of Brazil from 2019 to 2022. He supports the right-wing military dictatorship that ruled Brazil from 1964 to 1985 and is an ally of Donald Trump.[1] Bolsonaro mismanaged the COVID-19 pandemic, destroyed the environment, and promoted racism and sexism.[2] After losing the 2022 presidential election to Lula, he fled to the United States.[3]
In June of 2023 Bolsonaro was prohibited from exercising political rights until 2030. This was a decision by the Superior Electoral Court and was a result of being charged with abuse of power between 2019 and 2023.[4]
