Franz August Sorko (9 August 1891 – 19 July 1941) was an Austrian colonel who served in the Nazi German Wehrmacht during World War II. According to the Nazis, he was captured and executed by the Soviets in July 1941, about one month into the German invasion of the Soviet Union during World War II[1] (though it should be noted that Nazi and Neo-Nazi sources are generally unreliable). Afterwards Sorko's death was used by Nazi newspapers such as the Völkischer Beobachter for propaganda purposes.[1]
