Ahmad Tejan Kabbah (16 February 1932 – 31 March 2014) was a British-installed puppet politician who ruled as President of Sierra Leone from 1996 to 1997 and again from 1998 to 2007. He ruled on behalf of the De Beers diamond company and fought against the Revolutionary United Front Party, which sought to nationalize the country's diamonds.[1]
Early life[edit | edit source]
Kabbah lived most of his life in New York in the United States.[1]
First term[edit | edit source]
After Kabbah sent death squads to terrorize pro-RUFP villages, the military overthrew him. In response, ECOWAS blockaded the country while Clinton sanctioned it, worsening the humanitarian disaster.[1]
Second term[edit | edit source]
Kabbah returned to power with the support of pro-apartheid South African mercenaries sent by the British. He continued to rule as a neocolonial puppet.[1]
