Malaysia is a constitutional monarchy and a federal liberal nation in Southeast Asia separated into two regions by the South China Sea: Peninsula Malaysia and Eastern Malaysia. Peninsular Malaysia is situated in mainland Asia, bordering Thailand to the north with a maritime border with Singapore to the south. Eastern Malaysia is located on the island of Borneo which it shares with Brunei to the north and Indonesia to the south.

Colonization[edit | edit source]
The Malayan Communist Party fought against the British colonizers from 1948 until independence in 1957.[1]:249 In 1965, Singapore seceded from Malaysia.[1]:252
