Tankie Bunker is a Discord community and the largest internet chatroom made exclusively for Marxist-Leninists, with over 2,600 active users as of March 2023. Originally created in May 2020, the server aims to facilitate a safe space for Marxist-Leninists from all corners of the internet, free from debates and arguments with counterrevolutionary ideologies. Only MLs can join the server and those who do not support the server's party line are expressly banned.
In the three years since its founding, Tankie Bunker has since grown to become one of the largest left-wing servers on all of Discord, well known for its quality control, active moderation and insightful discussions. In this server, users can discuss a wide variety of topics including history, current events, theory, and praxis, all from a Marxist-Leninist perspective. There are numerous channels dedicated to the study of specific countries and regions, as well as a number of non-English chatrooms including those for Chinese-speaking users.
Officially, Tankie Bunker supports all AES, including and especially the People's Republic of China; many users are Chinese and members of the CPC. Maoists, Hoxhaists, patriotic socialists and other revisionist MLs are all prohibited from joining. The server is moderated by a number of well-known communist content creators, including BayArea415 of The Comrade Report and Iskender of ProleWiki. A majority of TB users are members of communist parties, including the Communist Party USA and Communist Party of China, though the server itself is completely independent and not affiliated with any other group or entity.
Compared to other online leftist communities, Tankie Bunker has gained a reputation for being particularly flamboyant in its hardline embrace of Marxist-Leninist ideology - literally branding itself with the pejorative "Tankie" as a means of reclaiming it - along with its refusal to entertain opposing ideas. This is perhaps what has made the server so popular, as no other community before it had really gone to such lengths to protect its ML users. While some may criticize these policies for their exclusivity, it has also what has allowed Tankie Bunker to avoid drama with other communities, and the server continues to be praised as a hotspot for fledgling MLs looking for a safe space that offers thoughtful, civil, and insightful discussions.
